Cardi B is suing an artist for her Simpsons Halloween costume

  • AleXsandro Palombo created the original art and wants to sue the rapper.
  • Palombo’s lawyer claims Cardi B has misappropriated his work without credit.

Contemporary pop artist who transformed The Simpsons with his art claims he could sue Cardi B for replicating his work in an Instagram post for Halloween.

Italian artist aleXsandro Palomimbo claims Cardi B was not authorized to use his art in her Oct. 31 post. In which Marge Simpson was dressed in a backward-facing dress to expose her butt, Palombo is claiming that Cardi B never authorized him to use his work.

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, did not credit Palombo in her post but used a picture of his art in the series of photos that she posted.

In her Instagram caption, she did however acknowledge French designer Thierry Mulgler, who inspired Palombo to create the dress.

Palombo, the artist who created the artwork at Vogue UK 2013, posted on Instagram that he had reached out to Cardi B but didn’t receive a reply.

Claudio Volpi, a lawyer working with Palombo, told Artnet News that Cardi B defied  “the most elementary rules on copyright and Instagram policies” when she used Palombo’s art without credit.

Artnet was also informed by Volpi that after the image had been posted to Cardi B’s social media accounts along with two other members of her team, Palombo reached back to them to correct the mistake and link to his Instagram account.

Volpi informed the outlet that Cardi B’s team failed to comply with that request. Volpi sent a notice informing them that they could take legal action if Cardi B doesn’t follow through.

In October, Cardi B won a lawsuit after a man accused the rapper of misappropriating his likeness by using his tattoos in her raunchy album art.

Insider asked for comment from representatives of Cardi B and Palombo, but they didn’t immediately respond.
