12-Year-Old Boy Kidnaps 3-Year-Old Girl For Ransom To Buy ‘Clothes, Phone’: Police

A Bauchi boy, aged 12, was charged with kidnapping and demanding money from his parents in return for the release of a 3-year-old girl.

Ripples Nigeria reported that Ahmad Wakil was the spokesperson for the state police command. He stated in a statement Saturday, that the 12-year old kidnapped the child in Magama Gumau in Toro Local Government Area. Both the victim and the suspect’s names were not released.

According to the spokesman, the boy lured the victim into an isolated area and called her father. He demanded a ransom of 150,000 Nigerian naira ($340), for her release.

“A discreet investigation revealed the suspect lured the victim near a football field at Kara Area Magama Gumau, and called his father on the phone to make the demand,” a police spokesperson said.

The spokesman stated that the victim’s father left the phone ringing and didn’t answer the subsequent calls.

The father called the suspect, and was able call him back at once because his voice was familiar. The father called the 12-year old boy by his name. He was able to identify the suspect and the boy remained silent.

According to police spokespersons, the boy claimed that he found the girl near a football field crying and then took her back home.

Wakil explained that the family rejected the story and immediately reported the actions taken by the 12-year-old to the authorities.

Wakil said that “During interrogation the suspect confessed” to the crime, and that he would have used the ransom to purchase clothes or phones.

The spokesperson said that police discovered during the investigation, that the boy had heard about kidnapping to pay ransom from his friend who was kidnapped in Kano.

Wakil stated that those who kidnapped his friend were paid ransom to get him released. This was how the suspect learned that money is required to free a kidnap victim.

A 12-year-old boy from Mississippi died this week, after he played Russian Roulette.

According to Deric Shearn, deputy chief, the game resulted in Markell Noah’s suicide. He was reported initially as missing but was later found at 334 Audubon Place, WLBT reported.

Jackson police stated that they had arrested two juveniles as well as a 21-year old adult the same day in connection to the death of the boy.

The juveniles are being accused of murder, while the adult faces accessory after the fact.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
