7 People Found Dead Including A Newborn, Children

According to officials, seven people have died after a mudslide occurred on Saturday, off a resort island in Naples, Italy. Five people are still missing as of Sunday night and they are believed to be buried beneath the mud and other debris.

Buildings collapsed due to the mudslide at Casamicciola, Ischia Island. Vehicles and other debris were also pushed into the sea by the mudslide.

“Mud, water tend to fill all spaces.” “Our teams are searching for hope, even if that is very difficult,” Luca Cari (spokesman for Italian firefighters) told RAI state TV.

Officials stated that the mudslide resulted from heavy rainfall, which loosened the mud from the mountainside.

The dead include the parents of the 3-weekold girl, a 5-year-old girl, and her 11-year old brother, a 31 year-old island resident, and a Bulgarian tourist.

RAI was told by Giacomo Pascale (the mayor of Lacco Ameno), that “we are continuing the search with broken hearts because among the missing is also minors.”
