Maryland power lines are damaged when a small plane crashes into them. This leaves 2 people stranded, and thousands without electricity.

A small plane crashed into power lines Officials in Maryland said that two people were left hanging about 100 feet high in the air after the crash. The accident knocked out power supply to thousands of people in the vicinity.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a single-engine Mooney M20J crashed into wires close to Montgomery County Airpark, Gaithersburg. This happened around 5:40 PM local time on Sunday.

The plane looked intact because it was caught in a network of power lines that reached about 100 feet high. The spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Pete Piringer and FAA stated that there were two persons aboard the plane.

Piringer stated that the passengers aboard the plane were not inured as of 7:50 p.m. Piringer earlier stated that they were in a “very dangerous situation” because the wires are still energized.

Officials stated that the crash resulted in “widespread power cuts” and roads closings around the scene.

Pepco confirmed the crash had affected around 85,000 customers, and stated that they were working with authorities to assess the damage.

The utility company tweeted, “We have confirmed that the private plane was in contact with Pepco’s transmission lines in Montgomery County. This caused an outage to approximately 85,000 consumers.” “We are assessing the damage and working closely to Montgomery County fire and emergency service.”

According to the FAA, both the National Transportation Safety Board (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash. NTSB will provide updates and lead the investigation, according to a statement.
