Prince William and Kate are returning to the U.S. after a gap of 8 years. Here’s how to find out.

William and Kate, the prince and Princess of Wales, will visit Boston this week in order to attend the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony. The Earthshot Prize is an independent charity that used to be part of The Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales. 

This will be the royal couple’s first visit to the U.S. since 2008. In 2014, Prince William was the last time they visited the United States. Meet with ex-President Barack Obama Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Secretary of State. They also met Tom Hanks. Jay-Z and Beyonce mingled Brooklyn Nets match.

However, this trip will be more focused on one issue: Climate Change. 

According to the Royal Household William & Kate will be restricting their visit to Boston between Wednesday and Friday. Their primary purpose will be to attend Earthshot Prize’s awards ceremonies, which are scheduled to take place Friday. 

Prince William will make remarks at the end of this ceremony. He was the initiator of the initiative. Princess Kate will accompany actors Rami Malek, Catherine O’Hara and Shailene Woodley in announcing the five award winners who will each receive £1 million to help their efforts to protect and restore nature, clean the air, revive oceans, eliminate waste and address climate change.

The organization states that the prize is awarded to individuals whose work can make a significant impact on Earth by 2030. Each year, five groups will receive the prize. The ceremony took place in London last year. 

The couple will spend time learning about how climate change impacts the city where they are attending the award ceremony. According to the Royal Household William and Kate will meet with Michelle Wu, Boston Mayor, as well as local organizations and those most affected by climate change. 

“The Royal Household stated that The Prince and Princess will visit Boston to see the efforts of local organizations to reduce the danger of rising sea levels. They are aware of the serious challenges facing Boston as a result. “During a visit at Greentown Labs, Somerville, their Royal Highnesses will learn about the many innovative green technologies incubated in this area.”
